The ancient Chinese people made many magnificent inventions such as powder, compass, paper and hanger. No! Chinese people did not invent the hanger, BUT an American guy did. Who's the guy?  Mr. Albert J. Parkhouse who was "the father of hanger".
      Albert J. Parkhouse, an employee of Timberlake & son's company in Jackson, Michigan, created a coat hanger in 1903. Once upon a time, in response to his colleagues'complaints of too few coat hooks. He bent a piece of wire into two ovals with the ends twisted together to form a hook. Then he took some wire and twisted it around so that it fit inside the shoulders of his coat. After that, he continued to refine the idea for a few weeks. Soon all the other employees in the company copied his idea to make their own hangers.
      This invention was patented by Timberlake's lawyer Charles I. Patterson on Juan.25, 1904 and U.S. patent No.822, 981 was granted to John B. Timberlake. It is not known if Mr. Parkhouse profited from it.
      At first, steel wire has been used to shape hangers. Then other materials have been combined such as wood, fabric, sheet metal, or plastic. Moving further into the 21st century, wire manufacturers were producing hundreds of styles of hangers. Spring coiled wire gave dimension to some, while extra hooks allowed belts and other accoutrements to hang from others. Travel hangers collapsed, folded, and telescoped with ease. Not to mention, tailors and clothing merchants advertised their businesses on specialty hangers.
 
      Though the origin inventor of hanger was not Chinese people, China has boosted to be the largest hanger production country in the universe. While you may not know Guilin is the largest hangers manufacturing base in China.
